On Friday July 17, 2009, more than 100 art enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the Mauruarend Art Gallery in Brandywine Square. The inviting, contemporary space is home to the work of artist Maurice Middendorf... a mostly self-taught artist from Guatemala who works with acrylics, photography, sculpture and pencil illustration. Marla Rivera, the gallery designer, said: "We made this pretty much his home away from home. We purposefully left the windows open so people could walk by and watch him work." There was one piece of that seemed to catch everyone's attention... a painting of 33 faces that rotates every 15 minutes giving a different perspective each time. Also there... Shirley and John Strout, Manny and Helen Scarlatos with 3-year old granddaughter Olivia, Charles and Maria Grimm, Scott Rivera (Marla's husband) and the artist's brothe, Marcel, visiting from Fort Myers.
